China set to buy 200 Boeing planes in biggest US jet deal with Beijing in years

China has agreed to place an order for 200 Boeing jets, as stated by U.S. President Donald Trump during an interview with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Thursday. This marks the first significant purchase of U.S.-manufactured commercial aircraft by China in nearly ten years.

Details surrounding the deal remain scarce, but Boeing’s stock price dropped by over 4% following Trump’s announcement. The number appears to be significantly lower than earlier media suggestions that the manufacturer was close to finalizing a sale of 500 or more aircraft to China.

The White House has not yet commented on whether Trump was referencing the complete Boeing order or if it pertains specifically to narrowbody or widebody planes. Boeing also has not responded to requests for clarification.

Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed expectations of a significant announcement regarding a large Boeing order during Trump’s visit to Beijing, where discussions were held with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

“One thing he agreed to today is that he will order 200 jets … Boeing wanted 150, but they settled on 200,” Trump was quoted by Fox News, referring to Xi.
