Despite this success, the TVK fell short of the majority threshold of 118 in the 234-member Assembly. This fragmented outcome has created uncertainty surrounding the formation of the government in the state, raising speculations about potential alignments among various political parties.
Discussions of possible post-poll alliances have heightened in Tamil Nadu following reports that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has relocated its MLAs to a resort in Puducherry.
Rumors suggest that the AIADMK is engaging in discussions regarding a potential alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) amid ongoing efforts to form a government.
On Wednesday, Vijay met with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to present his claim to form the government.
The TVK has reached out to Congress, Left parties, and the VCK for support to fill the gap.
Although Congress secured just five seats, they have extended conditional support to TVK. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal remarked, “The INC firmly believes that the mandate in Tamil Nadu calls for a secular government that upholds the Constitution fully.”
“The INC is resolute in preventing the BJP and its allies from managing the Tamil Nadu government. Thiru Vijay has also expressed a desire to draw inspiration from Perunthalaivar Kamaraj,” he added.
In contrast, the AIADMK has dismissed the possibility of supporting TVK.
Party Deputy Coordinator KP Munusamy stated, “Whatever the circumstances, AIADMK will not support TVK,” according to ANI.
The VCK, which has won two seats, has not yet made its position clear. A senior party member indicated that “The decision will be made by our party president, Thol Thirumavalavan,” as per PTI.
Vijay’s planned oath-taking ceremony on May 7 may encounter delays due to concerns regarding the numbers needed to secure a majority.
