Anthropic partners with SpaceX to enhance computing capacity and manage increased AI demand.
Anthropic has revealed a collaboration with SpaceX aimed at significantly enhancing its computational capacity, which will also allow for elevated usage limits for both Claude Code and the Claude API.

In a message posted on X, Claude stated that this agreement, in conjunction with other recent computational partnerships, has enabled the organization to boost its usage limits. This advancement comes as AI companies continue to expand their infrastructure to meet increasing demand.

Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic will leverage the full computational capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center located in Memphis, Tennessee. This facility offers access to over 300 megawatts of computing power, representing a substantial increase in Anthropic’s infrastructure capabilities.

The partnership also includes the possibility of future collaboration on space-oriented infrastructure. Anthropic has shown interest in partnering with SpaceX to create several gigawatts of computing power in space, indicating a long-term commitment to advanced and distributed AI systems.

This agreement emerges amid tensions between Elon Musk and Anthropic. Musk, who heads competing AI company xAI, has been critical of Anthropic in recent months. Earlier this year, Musk merged xAI with SpaceX in a deal valuing the startup at $250 billion.

Simultaneously, xAI has been enhancing its own data infrastructure, particularly in Memphis, as it competes with major players like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Colossus 1 is currently the largest facility operated by xAI. The company and its subsidiary MZX Tech, LLC, have installed several natural gas-burning turbines at the location to fuel operations. These turbines, reportedly set up without federal permits due to their temporary designation, have faced criticism for contributing to worsening air quality and have sparked protests in the area.
