In an unusual decision, the Election Commission (EC) has mandated a fresh election for all 285 polling stations in the Falta Assembly constituency of West Bengal, to take place on May 21, citing a “subversion of the democratic process.”

A spokesperson for the EC confirmed that votes will be counted on May 24.

Such a sweeping re-election of an entire Assembly constituency is uncommon for the electoral authority.
On Friday, the Election Commission had also called for a re-election in 15 polling stations across two different Assembly seats—Diamond Harbour and Magarhat Paschim.

The elections for the West Bengal Assembly took place over two phases on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting for the remaining seats scheduled for May 4.
