Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak Charged in Punjab with Non-Bailable Offenses
The Punjab Police have filed two FIRs against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak under non-bailable charges. These cases, registered in different districts, follow his recent transition from AAP to BJP.

This incident comes after a significant change in the Upper House, where Pathak was one of seven MPs who defected from AAP to BJP. Reports indicate that these FIRs may result in potential arrest, leading to increased security measures outside his official residence in New Delhi.

Footage captured Pathak leaving his residence through the back entrance, entering a vehicle, and departing. Sources from NDTV suggest he has relocated to an undisclosed area and is currently unavailable for contact.
In the meantime, reports state that the BJP’s legal team is preparing to support Pathak in seeking relief.

When questioned about the situation, Pathak told news agency ANI via phone, “I am unaware of any FIR against me.”

The timing of these actions has prompted strong backlash from multiple parties. Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma accused the FIRs of being a manifestation of ‘political vendetta’ and claimed that AAP is utilizing the police to suppress opposition voices.

In a post shared on X, Sharma remarked, “There is no law in Punjab; we are currently experiencing political vendetta. The fear of Bhagwant Mann and Kejriwal has become evident. The filing of a non-bailable FIR against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak ji immediately after his departure from AAP to BJP indicates that Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann are wielding the police as a political tool.”

“This is not merely one incident—this reflects a politics of fear, chaos, and revenge. The police have previously been used to silence dissenting voices, and the same tactics are being repeated today. The non-bailable laws and immediate threats are a disgraceful means of pushing a political agenda under the pretense of legality,” he added.

Akali Dal General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia questioned why these measures were only initiated after Pathak’s exit from AAP.

On X, he posted, “Hero to Zero… Selective targeting of those who separate from Aam Aadmi Party. Sandeep Pathak was once a dependable ally of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, a significant power hub. If he was wrong, it means he was following his superiors, Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann. Then, who colluded with him, and why aren’t they facing charges now? The timing of FIRs following his switch suggests possible vendetta politics. The transition from influence to investigation raises serious concerns.”

Pathak’s departure was part of a larger political reshuffle announced on April 24, involving several AAP Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal, and Vikramjit Sahney, all of whom revealed their departure from the party.
