New Ganga Expressway Cuts Meerut-Prayagraj Drive to Just 6 Hours: Everything You Need to Know
Traveling across Uttar Pradesh is set to become remarkably quicker and more efficient. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the 594-km Ganga Expressway, the journey between Meerut and Prayagraj will be reduced from nearly 11 hours to about six.

This six-lane, access-controlled expressway — which can be expanded to eight lanes — connects 12 districts throughout western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 kmph. The route passes through vital districts including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, and Pratapgarh.

The benefits for travelers extend beyond just shorter travel times:

  • Effortless long-distance journeys: This expressway facilitates same-day travel across the state, making multi-city plans more practical.
  • Enhanced access from Delhi-NCR: New interchanges are anticipated to provide better connectivity for those coming from western Uttar Pradesh.
  • Encouragement of religious tourism: The easier route to Prayagraj may streamline travel during major events such as the Kumbh and Magh Mela.
  • Upgraded roadside facilities: Logistics hubs and industrial clusters along the expressway are expected to offer improved rest areas, fuel stations, and dining options.

Additionally, this expressway is being designed as a comprehensive development corridor. Districts situated along the route are predicted to experience industrial expansion, logistics hubs, and new urban development. Areas like Hapur and Unnao could see enhanced amenities for travelers, while regions such as Sambhal and Amroha may witness local crafts and produce reaching broader markets.

Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore, the Ganga Expressway ranks among India’s largest greenfield road initiatives. A distinctive feature of the project is a 3.5-km airstrip in Shahjahanpur, intended for emergency aircraft landings.
