Trump’s Approval Rating Plummets to Historic Low Amid Rising Cost-of-Living Fears Due to Iran Conflict

Donald Trump refers to shooting suspect from White House dinner as a 'lone wolf.'
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest point of his current term, as public sentiment worsens regarding his management of the cost of living and an unpopular conflict with Iran, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The four-day poll that concluded on Monday indicated that 34% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance in office, a decrease from 36% in a previous Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted from April 15 to 20.

Most of the responses were collected before the Saturday night shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, where Trump was set to speak. Federal prosecutors have charged the alleged shooter with attempting to assassinate the president.
Trump’s approval ratings have declined since he took office in January 2025, when 47% of Americans expressed their support.

His popularity has suffered following the initiation of a war against Iran on February 28 by the U.S. and Israel, which has resulted in rising gasoline prices. Only 22% of respondents in the poll approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, a drop from 25% in the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The survey, conducted nationwide and online, gathered insights from 1,014 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
