World leaders expressed their relief that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania, and other attendees remained unhurt following a shooting event at the White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday (April 25) night, emphasizing that political violence has no role in a democracy.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has often disagreed with Trump, called the incident at the Washington Hilton hotel a “disturbing event”.

“I am thankful that the President, the First Lady, and all guests are safe after reports of gunfire at the White House correspondents’ dinner in Washington tonight. Political violence is unacceptable in any democracy, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this troubling event,” Carney stated in a post on X.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum remarked that it was “good to know President Trump and his wife are safe after the recent occurrences”.

“We offer them our respect. Violence should never be a method,” Sheinbaum stated.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his satisfaction that all participants were unharmed. “We commend the efforts of the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for their swift response,” he mentioned in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his relief that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J D Vance were safe and unharmed after the security incident at the White House Correspondents’ dinner in Washington.

Modi affirmed that violence has no place in a democracy and should be clearly condemned.

“I am relieved to hear that President Trump, the First Lady, and Vice President are safe and unhurt following the recent security incident at a Washington DC hotel. I wish them continued safety and well-being. Violence holds no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned,” Modi said in a post on X.

Delcy Rodriguez, acting President of Venezuela after Nicolas Maduro’s capture by US forces, condemned the attack on Trump.

“We send our best wishes to them and all participants of the Correspondent’s dinner. Violence is never an option for those who uphold the values of peace,” she wrote on X.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his condemnation of the incident via social media, stating he was “deeply shocked” by the news.

“I am relieved to hear that President Trump, the First Lady, and other participants are safe,” Sharif mentioned.
