From April 10, 2026, France has eliminated the airport transit visa requirement for Indian citizens holding ordinary passports. This exemption is applicable solely to travelers who stay within the international transit zone during their layovers while heading to a third country.

An official statement indicates that Indian citizens with ordinary passports are exempt from obtaining an airport transit visa when they transit through the international zones of French airports. This exception is valid only for those who remain in the international transit area while traveling to a third country.
This development was positively received by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in its briefing. Officials noted that the implementation of visa-free transit for Indian nationals at French airports stems from an agreement made between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter’s visit to India in February 2026.
The MEA stated that this decision exemplifies the enduring partnership between India and France, aimed at facilitating smoother travel and enhancing people-to-people connections between the two nations.
