Ternus will officially take on the CEO position on September 1, as announced in a company statement on Monday. A veteran at Apple, he has led hardware engineering since 2021 and has dedicated 25 years to product development at the company. According to Bloomberg News, Ternus was previously seen as Cook’s successor.
The responsibilities for hardware will be transferred to Johny Srouji, a longstanding chip executive, who will now serve as chief hardware officer, overseeing hardware engineering and silicon development.
“John Ternus possesses the mind of an engineer, the spirit of an innovator, and the integrity and honor to lead,” Cook stated in a release. “He is a visionary with contributions to Apple that span 25 years and are countless, making him undoubtedly the right individual to steer Apple into the future.”

In his new role as executive chairman, Cook will engage with policymakers globally. At 65, he already manages Apple’s relationship with US President Donald Trump.
