Iran-US-Israel War Live Updates: A temporary ceasefire has been initiated between Israel and Lebanon as diplomatic efforts intensify to de-escalate the larger regional conflict involving Iran. The truce, declared by US President Donald Trump, aims to pave the way for negotiations focused on establishing a more lasting security arrangement between the two nations.

Following the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire, celebrations erupted in some areas of Lebanon, aimed at enabling discussions between Israeli and Lebanese officials regarding a permanent peace and security framework.

This ceasefire came after several hours of severe violence. Just before the truce was enacted late on the night of Thursday, April 16, Israeli forces launched extensive strikes in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that these assaults resulted in the deaths of three individuals in a Sidon district village and eight others in the Zahrani area, according to Al Jazeera.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed support for the ceasefire, as reported by Iranian state media, describing it as part of a larger understanding with Washington aimed at halting the escalating regional conflict.

A Hezbollah official communicated to Al Jazeera Arabic that the group would approach the truce with care, stating that Hezbollah would maintain the ceasefire with “caution and vigilance.”

In the meantime, US President Donald Trump indicated positive movements in diplomatic initiatives to resolve the confrontation with Iran. Trump remarked that a deal to conclude the war with Tehran is “very close,” suggesting that negotiations might resume as early as this weekend in Islamabad, Pakistan, according to Al Jazeera.

When addressing reporters, Trump also noted that it remains unclear if the current ceasefire will be extended. However, he maintained an optimistic outlook regarding the ongoing discussions and indicated that Iran seems more amenable to concessions, especially on nuclear weapons issues, compared to several months ago.
