FIFA President Infantino confirms Iran's participation in the World Cup 'without a doubt' despite ongoing conflict.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated on Wednesday that Iran will definitely take part in the World Cup “for sure,” despite its ongoing conflict with the United States.

During his speech at CNBC’s Invest in America Forum, Infantino emphasized the significance of Iran’s participation in the World Cup, even though its involvement has been uncertain since airstrikes were launched on the country by the US and Israel.

“The Iranian team is confirmed to attend, yes,” Infantino asserted. “We hope that by then, naturally, the situation will be peaceful. As I mentioned, that would certainly be beneficial. But Iran has to be there. They are representing their people and they have earned their place. The players are eager to compete.” Infantino recently met with the Iranian national team in Antalya, Turkey, and expressed his admiration for them on Wednesday.
“I went to see them, and they are actually quite a talented team,” Infantino commented. “They genuinely wish to compete, and they ought to do so. Sports should transcend political issues at this time.” He recognized that achieving a clear divide between sports and politics is not always feasible.

“OK, we don’t live on the moon, we live on planet Earth,” Infantino noted. “But if there’s no one else who believes in the importance of building and maintaining bridges, then we are committed to that role.” The United States will be co-hosting the World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.

Iran is set to play two group-stage matches in Inglewood, California, and one in Seattle.

The ongoing conflict has cast doubts on Iran’s World Cup participation, with inconsistent statements emerging from Iranian government and soccer officials. US President Donald Trump has urged the Iranian team to refrain from attending the tournament, citing concerns for their safety.
