It has warned that carrying out or airing exit polls during this timeframe violates section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which could result in imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.
Assembly elections in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will take place on April 9, while voting in Tamil Nadu is set for April 23.
In West Bengal, elections are scheduled for April 23 and 29.

The 48-hour ‘silence period’ will begin at 6 pm on Tuesday (April 7) in Kerala and Puducherry but will start at 5 pm in Assam.
This silence period signifies the cessation of campaigning 48 hours before the conclusion of voting in a specific constituency or across the whole state.
With the exception of door-to-door campaigning by a limited number of party workers or candidates, all other forms of campaigning are prohibited. However, enforcing this in a digital era can be challenging.
Voting typically occurs from 7 am to 6 pm, but these times may vary based on terrain and security conditions.
