US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that a deal with Iran might be finalized as soon as Monday, revealing that negotiations are currently in progress, according to an interview with Fox News.
This development follows a blend of diplomatic signaling and decisive actions from Washington.
Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of an agreement, highlighting that Iranian officials are engaged in active negotiations. He also mentioned that the US had previously supplied arms to Iranian protesters via Kurdish intermediaries, though he suggested the Kurds might still possess those weapons.
Further clarifying his position, Trump indicated that the US could take control of Iranian oil if Tehran does not agree to a deal. He also noted that the current Iranian negotiators have been afforded limited amnesty, potentially to aid in the negotiations.
These comments came shortly after Trump heightened tensions with Iran through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
In his post, Trump cautioned that strikes against Iran’s infrastructure could occur on Tuesday (April 7). He urged Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, warning of severe repercussions if the situation remains unresolved.
