Takeoff, by the hip-hop group Migos, was shot in Houston early Tuesday morning, according to TMZ.
The shooting was reported at 2:30 a.m. at 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston. At the time, Takeoff was playing dice with Migos rapper Quavo. He was twenty-eight years old. Takeoff was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were injured and taken to hospital. Quavo was unharmed. Born Kirshnik Khari Ball and a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Takeoff formed Migos alongside his uncle Quavo and retired great-uncle Offset. The trio found immediate success with their 2013 debut single, “Versace,” which went gold and led to a collaboration with Drake. Their debut album, Yung Rich Nation, followed in 2015.
Migos’ 2017 album Culture debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, thanks to its lead single, “Bad and Boujee,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Donald Glover gave a shout-out to Migos during his 2017 Golden Globes acceptance speech for Atlanta, saying, “I want to thank the Migos — not for being on the show, but for doing ‘Bad and Boujee'”.
Migos released their second studio album Culture II in 2018. The record featured hit singles such as “MotorSport” featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, “Walk It Talk It” featuring Drake, and “Stir Fry .”
Migos completed the Culture Trilogy with the release of Culture III in 2021. Last month, amid Offset split rumors, Takeoff and Quavo released a collaborative album titled Only Wuilt for Infinity Links.
Takeoff released a solo album, The Last Rocket, in 2018.
