This will be Kohli’s third entry in the tournament following the BCCI’s mandate for centrally contracted players to partake in at least two Vijay Hazare matches this season.
“As of now, he is participating. Virat has confirmed his availability for three matches,” stated Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley to PTI.
Kohli has shown excellent form in the initial two games for Delhi, scoring 131 and 77 consecutively.
In doing so, he also became the fastest player to reach 16,000 List A runs, achieving this milestone in his 330th innings, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the mark in 391 innings.
A BCCI source mentioned that while the Indian ODI squad for the New Zealand series will gather in Vadodara by January 8, there is a chance that Kohli may arrive a day early for training.
The three-match ODI series against the Black Caps is set to start at the same location on January 11.
In the meantime, as reported by PTI earlier, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will be rested from the ODIs as part of their workload management plan established by the sports science team.
Both players will be vital for India during the home T20 World Cup commencing on February 7.
