West Bengal 2026 Elections: Mamata Alerts TMC Leaders, Warns New Election Commission Officials Might Dismiss Their Nominations

West Bengal 2026 Elections: Mamata Alerts TMC Leaders, Warns New Election Commission Officials Might Dismiss Their Nominations
Mamata Banerjee, the supremo of Trinamool Congress, on Wednesday (April 1) claimed that the newly appointed officials by the Election Commission have been assigned to reject nominations from her party and cautioned candidates to be careful while submitting their nominations.

While addressing a campaign rally in Nanoor, Birbhum district of West Bengal, Banerjee criticized the BJP for allegedly exploiting central agencies for political advantage.

“Everything has changed; there’s a new structure in place. The recently appointed officials by the EC are tasked with rejecting your nominations, so please be cautious while you file them,” Banerjee remarked at the rally.
The chief minister of West Bengal also urged the public, particularly women, against voting for the BJP.

“They (BJP) are anti-women, which is why their names are being removed from the SIR on grounds of logical discrepancies,” she stated.

Banerjee expressed her approval of the Supreme Court’s remarks regarding the SIR and mentioned that she was “pleased” with the outcome.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court indicated that appellate tribunals will handle appeals from individuals whose names have been excluded from voter lists, as well as appeals from poll panel authorities concerning alleged wrongful inclusions.

Later, at another rally in Burwan, the Chief Minister accused the BJP of requesting individuals’ bank account details and warned them against sharing such information.

“This is the BJP’s strategy — to bribe people with cash before the elections and then deceive them afterward,” she asserted.

The elections for the 294-member West Bengal assembly are slated to occur in two phases – on April 23 and 29, with vote counting on May 4.
