The State Department announced on Saturday that action was taken against Seyed Eissa Hashemi, a psychology teacher in the Los Angeles area, along with his wife and son, all Iranian-born lawful permanent residents of the US.
The department stated in a release, coinciding with negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict with Iran in Pakistan, that they had been detained by immigration authorities and are scheduled for deportation.
Hashemi, it noted, is the son of Masoumeh Ebtekar, who was the spokesperson for the group that seized the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and subsequently became Iran’s first female vice president.
Just last week, the State Department also revoked the green cards of the niece and grand-niece of former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leader Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad in early 2020.
