‘Unified Approach’: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Outline Strategy for 2028 Elections

Congress leadership has instructed to maintain the current leadership in Karnataka, according to CM Siddaramaiah's son.
In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the two convened for breakfast at the CM’s residence ahead of the 2028 state assembly elections.

Speaking to the media following their meeting, CM Siddaramaiah stated, “Whatever decision the high command—Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi—makes, we will both comply. There are no disagreements between DK Shivakumar and me.”

Siddaramaiah mentioned that their discussions were centered on the 2028 elections, noting that he and Shivakumar talked about the upcoming local body elections and strategies to re-establish Congress in power by 2028.
The CM reiterated that there were no differences between him and Shivakumar and that they will continue to collaborate in the future.

Recent tensions between the two leaders stem from a supposed rotational power-sharing arrangement.

Reports indicate that Shivakumar was promised the Chief Minister’s position halfway through the term, after 2.5 years. However, Siddaramaiah claims he intends to serve the full five-year term and denies such an agreement exists.

Regarding Shivakumar’s future as CM, Siddaramaiah acknowledged some confusion over the past month but stated it has now been resolved. “There will be no confusion starting tomorrow. There is still no confusion. Some media reports have created misunderstandings,” he clarified.

Shivakumar mentioned that their focus remains on winning local body elections, gram panchayat polls, and the 2028 assembly election.

“We both worked together during the assembly elections. Similarly, we want to approach the 2028 election as a united front. There are no differences now or moving forward,” he affirmed.

He added that they discussed their strategy for the 2028 assembly elections and how to address opposition challenges. “They may attempt to raise various issues. We are prepared to respond.”

Siddaramaiah also dismissed any speculation about a potential no-confidence motion against his government proposed by the opposition BJP. “They (BJP and JD(S)) claim that no no-confidence motion will be presented. We are equipped to face it,” he stated.

Pointing to their majority in the assembly, he remarked, “They number 60 and 18. We hold 140 seats. This is a pointless endeavor. We will rebut their baseless allegations.”

Earlier, Shivakumar was seen leaving Siddaramaiah’s residence after their breakfast meeting.

Prior to the press conference, a photo surfaced showing the two leaders enjoying upma, idli, and kesari bath together.

“Had a productive breakfast meeting with Hon’ble CM Shri Siddaramaiah at Cauvery Residence this morning. We discussed Karnataka’s priorities and our way forward,” Shivakumar posted on X.

Shivakumar is anticipated to travel to Delhi to meet the party’s central leaders later this evening.
