On Saturday (April 19), Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray firmly stated that his party will resist the imposition of Hindi as a compulsory language in Maharashtra, following the state government’s recent decision to designate Hindi as a mandatory third language for pupils from classes 1 to 5. Thackeray reiterated that while his party does not oppose the Hindi language, the enforcement raises questions. These comments arise amidst growing dissent from the opposition regarding the Maharashtra government’s initiative to mandate Hindi as a third language for students in both Marathi and English-medium schools, deviating from the established norm of studying only two languages.
