Trump revokes invitation to Canadian PM Carney for Gaza Peace Board meeting.
On Friday, January 23, United States President Donald Trump rescinded the invitation extended to Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney to join the Gaza Board of Peace.

In a message on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump published an open letter to Carney addressing the decision to retract the invitation.

“Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please consider this letter as notification that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s participation in what will undoubtedly be the most illustrious Board of Leaders ever convened. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump stated.

The Trump-Carney standoff

This decision likely followed a verbal exchange between the two leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Summit 2026 held in Davos, Switzerland.

On January 20, Carney delivered a speech at Davos, claiming that the world is in a “midst of a rupture, not a transition,” emphasizing that “great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons, tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, and supply chains as vulnerabilities to exploit.”

“The multilateral institutions that middle powers depend on — the WTO, the UN, the COP — the fundamental architecture for collective problem-solving, are under threat,” Carney remarked.

Responding on January 21, President Trump took aim at Carney during his address at the Davos Summit.

“I watched your Prime Minister yesterday. He wasn’t very appreciative,” Trump remarked, adding, “Canada exists because of the United States. Keep that in mind, Mark, the next time you express your views.”

The following day, in a national address prior to the new legislative session, Carney dismissed Trump’s remarks while emphasizing the US-Canada partnership.

“Canada and the United States have forged a commendable partnership across the economy, security, and cultural exchange,” Carney stated in his address in Quebec City.

“However, Canada doesn’t exist merely because of the United States. Canada thrives because we are proudly Canadian,” he concluded.
