Trump mentioned in a post on Truth Social that this decision followed discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army chief Asim Munir.
“Following discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, who urged me to delay the military actions scheduled for tonight against Iran, and contingent on the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I have agreed to pause bombing and assaults on Iran for two weeks,” Trump wrote.
He referred to the decision as a “double-sided ceasefire,” asserting that the US had already met its military goals while discussions for a long-term agreement continued.
Trump also noted that Washington received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he called “a feasible basis for negotiation.”
“Nearly all the points of previous contention have been agreed upon between the United States and Iran, and a two-week timeframe will allow the agreement to be finalized and executed,” he added.
