TN Chief Minister announces increase in pensions and retirement benefits for noon meal coordinators and Anganwadi workers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Saturday a rise in the monthly pension for noon meal organisers, Anganwadi workers, and panchayat secretaries to 3,400, up from 2,000.

Additionally, their retirement benefits will be increased to 2 lakh from the current 1 lakh.

Concluding the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address to the Assembly, the CM stated that the family pension for noon meal organisers and Anganwadi workers will now be 1,200 and 1,100, respectively.
Moreover, the pension for mini Anganwadi workers and forest frontline staff will rise to 3,200 from 2,000, with their retirement benefits also set to double to 2 lakh. The pension for Anganwadi assistants, cooks, cooking assistants, and sweepers will be increased to 3,000 from 2,000, with their retirement benefits climbing from 50,000 to 1 lakh, he noted.

This announcement follows a recent strike by noon meal organisers and Anganwadi workers who were advocating for better pay and other benefits.

In addition, 1.80 lakh individuals will be granted a monthly pension based on requests received through the “Stalin with You” camps, which will be launched on February 4.

Currently, 33.6 lakh senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, widows, farmers, farm labourers, unmarried women over 50 years, and deserted women are benefiting from the pension under the social security scheme. With this new initiative, an extra 1.80 lakh people will gain assistance, he affirmed.

Stalin also mentioned that a government order would soon be issued to recruit part-time teachers in government-run schools. Special marks will be assigned to part-time teachers based on their experience to aid their transition to permanent teaching positions, he added.

In another significant announcement, he revealed plans to construct one lakh houses under the Kalaignar housing scheme.

Approximately 2,200 km of rural roads will be upgraded under the Chief Minister’s Rural Roads Development Scheme, with an estimated expenditure of 1,088 crore.

Following the Chief Minister’s comprehensive response and announcements, the Assembly Speaker M Appavu adjourned the House sine die.

The five-day inaugural session for the year began on January 20.
