On Saturday, Scotland was confirmed as the replacement for Bangladesh, who withdrew from the 20-team tournament due to security concerns, even though the ICC maintained there were no threats based on their assessment. “Earlier today, I received correspondence from the ICC asking if our men’s team would participate in the Men’s T20 World Cup, and we have accepted,” Lindblad stated on Cricket Scotland’s website.
“We are thankful to the ICC for this invitation. It presents an exciting opportunity for Scotland’s players to shine on a global stage in front of millions of fans. We also recognize that this chance has come about from challenging and unique circumstances.
“Our squad has been training for several weeks in advance of upcoming tours and is now ready to arrive in India shortly to adapt to the local conditions, prepared to play and contribute to what promises to be a thrilling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” she added.
However, Scotland will require some time to announce their 15-member squad for the tournament, set to commence on February 7.
“The ICC has confirmed that Scotland will take Bangladesh’s place in Group C after their withdrawal from the competition. Details regarding squad selection for the tournament will be released in the coming days,” Cricket Scotland stated.
Cricket Scotland’s chairman, Wilf Walsh, mentioned that he received a call from ICC chairman Jay Shah confirming Scotland’s participation.
“I received a welcoming call from ICC Chair Jay Shah earlier today, confirming that Scotland will receive an invitation to compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. I was thrilled to accept on behalf of our team, who are eager and ready to go,” he said.
“We thank the ICC for this opportunity and look forward to competing against some of the best teams in the world in India in the upcoming weeks,” Walsh added.
