TCS responds to Nashik sexual harassment investigation, stating that employees are under review and facing suspension.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the largest software exporter in India, is facing scrutiny after nine FIRs were filed regarding incidents of sexual harassment and religious conversion at its Nashik facility.

According to a report by Moneycontrol, TCS has affirmed its “zero-tolerance” stance towards any form of coercion or harassment. Six employees have been apprehended in connection with these allegations, and the company has already suspended those under investigation.

On April 12, a TCS spokesperson stated, “Upon learning of the incidents in Nashik, we took immediate action. Those being investigated have been suspended pending an inquiry. We are collaborating with local law enforcement, and any further measures will be determined based on the findings of this investigation.”
“TCS maintains a long-established zero-tolerance policy concerning any form of harassment or coercion. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and well-being for our employees in the workplace,” the company remarked.

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, praising the Nashik police for their swift response.

The HR representative from the Pune-based IT firm is currently being interrogated by the Nashik police for not addressing the women’s complaints.

According to police, some victims had earlier reported their grievances to the HR manager, but no action was taken. As cited by an officer in The Indian Express, “We have issued her a notice to participate in the investigation at a later date.”

Government Forms a Special Investigation Team

A special investigation team (SIT) has been established to probe the matter.

A lawsuit was filed by a woman in March, alleging that a colleague had maintained a sexual relationship with her under false promises of marriage. The report indicates that eight additional FIRs regarding sexual harassment and religious conversion were filed during the investigation.

At this point, at least six employees of the firm have been arrested. The action was initiated based on intelligence received by the Nashik Police Commissioner’s office.

The detainees include Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, Danish Sheikh, and one unidentified woman.

A man and at least eight women have come forward to file complaints against the group associated with the company. As reported by the Indian Express, the allegations involve coercing individuals into consuming beef and mocking Hindu deities. Some cases also involve accusations of sexual assault.
