Tariffs Must Not Obstruct Growth Between the US and India: Congressman Rich McCormick
Tariffs should not impede growth or closer economic relations between India and the United States, stated US Congressman Rich McCormick in an interview with CNBC-TV18.

“The less regulation and taxation we impose, including tariffs, the more beneficial it will be for both countries,” he asserted, advocating for a more transparent and mutually advantageous trade partnership.

McCormick highlighted that India is one of the fastest-growing markets globally, particularly in the digital sector, and emphasized the strategic importance of enhanced collaboration. He noted that India is eager to collaborate with the US and increasingly sees it as a significant economic opportunity—an assessment that’s becoming more prevalent in Washington.
“We recognize a vast market in India,” he remarked, adding that the growing synergy between the two economies is promising for future partnerships.

While he showed support for reciprocal tariffs, McCormick emphasized his preference for minimal governmental interference. “I’m not a supporter of big government. I would prefer no taxes and unrestricted trade,” he stated.

He further urged for India’s inclusion in critical global discussions, especially in technology and digital trade, citing the nation’s rapid development and readiness to collaborate as compelling reasons for the US to strengthen its economic ties with New Delhi.
