The 31-year-old, who is under contract with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has initiated legal proceedings in the Colombo District Court, seeking a ruling that compels Sri Lanka Cricket to issue the NOC. The hearing has been scheduled for April 9.
As reported by local media, the player, who has made 30 T20 international appearances for Sri Lanka since 2022, has argued that his contract with the SLC expired on March 31, and he does not wish to extend it.
He stated that he had communicated to the SLC his intention to conclude his international career.
Therefore, the court should overturn the NOC denial based on the failed fitness tests.
The SLC had mandated fitness tests for selections to the national team.
However, Thushara asserted that his fitness levels were never in question, and he had been permitted to compete at similar standards by the SLC in the past.
Thushara was signed by RCB for Rs 1.6 crore in 2025. He participated in one match during the team’s championship-winning season last year.
Overall, he has taken 174 wickets in 137 T20 matches, with an average of 21.25.
