Jayson Tatum, a star in style and stats, sidelined for the rest of the postseason and possibly through the next, exits not just the floor, but also the tunnel where he’s been the quiet anchor of NBA player style all season.

Tatum didn’t chase trends, though he often highlighted and reflected cycles and psyches. His style was not about shock value either. His choices appeared considered, specific, and consistent.

Tatum’s outfits looked cool, clean, and calculated, and often thematic and highly expressive. Not for attention, but having purpose, signaling pride and presence … a respect for the stage, and a treat to his fashionista fans watching closely. His outfits showed respect for the game, for the fans, and for himself.

There was discipline in the details. Tatum dressed with meticulous care and attention to everything that makes an outfit chic: color, cut, silhouette, pattern, craftsmanship, balance, harmony, and flow.

Tatum embodied the possibility that Black men can freely frolic in their choices. Tatum: A muse, a benchmark, a quiet force in a space where louder voices often dominate.

His tunnel walk defined a genre, NBA tunnel fashion, athlete style, and cultural tastemaking, and provided a fun way to experience fandom.

Tatum inspired stylists, media figures, brands, and viewers, and helped spawn the many social media accounts dedicated to tracking his looks. In doing so, he became more than a player to watch.

The walk doesn’t end, but it does pause.

Here are ten of his sharpest, most intentional, most unforgettable looks from the 2024–25 season — a year cut short, never lacking, always serving, and a reminder of what it means to show up with intention.

Best outerwear appearance

Tatum has a strong jacket game, which we all got to see in full glory when the team visited President Biden last November to celebrate Banner 18.

Cleanest colorblock

Who knows Tatum’s actual favorite colors, especially with how many colorways comprise his sneaker collection. What is clear is how much he loves to color block with the combination of black, white, and tan.

Swaggiest sneaker moment

Aside from that closet tour, Tatum showed off the best of his Jordan Tatum 3s throughout the season, debuting multiple colors like neutrals, orange and white to match his Hermes, various technicolor varieties, understated black-and-white, and a pair that mimicked the Action Green seasonal city jerseys.

Most polished suit

Sneakers, denim, jackets, sweaters, caps, glasses — just when it seemed like he had worn it all and proved there’s nothing he can’t pull off, Tatum wore impeccably cut Ferragamo before the All-Star game.

Whimsicality at its finest

Emotion came across often in Tatum’s clothing, often a play on something else or a storyline, and sometimes humor and levity.

Best coordinated fit

Master of matching sets, king of coordination, don of the style duel, Tatum connects with his teammates and the league at large with his sartorial choices.

Best matching set

By far, this is the toughest Tatum category. With so many sets to choose from, this denim duo stands out for its simplicity and storytelling.

Accessorized to the max

With so much of the fashion gazing focused on the main elements, it is easy to miss the subtle details that pull his looks together like, diamonds, pearls, and other adornments and accoutrements.

Hottest take on a trend

A barometer of what people like, what they’re wearing or talking about online, Tatum kept his finger on the pulse, and his fashion aligned with trends, not quite leading in this realm, though not following either. Tatum fit in.

Hardest tunnel look

History, heritage, and haute couture came together in this study and composition of blackness.

Looking ahead, the Celtics will regroup. For now, we stop and appreciate Tatum for all of his plays, fits, kicks, and exemplary storytelling through style.
