Sawant participated in the pre-budget meeting for the Union Budget 2026-27, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in New Delhi on Saturday. The meeting included finance ministers from various states and Union Territories, along with other senior officials.
Later, Sawant stated that the meeting entailed comprehensive discussions on essential provisions and priorities for the forthcoming Union Budget.
”Goa’s viewpoints, requests, and developmental needs were articulated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum in critical infrastructure initiatives,” he mentioned.
The Chief Minister noted that Goa aimed to bolster social welfare programs, guarantee ongoing support for capital investments, implement state-specific Finance Commission recommendations, and pursue a ”fairer funding pattern between the Centre and states” under centrally sponsored schemes, given Goa’s coastal challenges, the ecology of the Western Ghats, and its national tourism obligations.
”Special focus was directed towards enhancing industrial and logistics connectivity, improving rail links to major urban areas, and developing infrastructure that is resilient to climate change to tackle coastal and environmental issues,” he stated.
The discussions also highlighted the necessity to expand healthcare capacity, enhance waste management and sanitation systems, promote tourism diversification and skills development, and speed up the shift towards renewable and clean energy in line with national climate goals, according to the Chief Minister.
”These discussions are a vital step in aligning state ambitions with national development objectives, as Goa pursues its path towards Viksit Goa 2037, in harmony with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047,” he concluded.
