Rishabh Pant Achieves Career-High No. 7 in ICC Test Rankings Following Double Century Against England

Nasser Hussain: Rishabh Pant is incredibly entertaining; fans can't get enough of his gameplay.
India’s dynamic wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant achieved a career-best seventh position in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters on Wednesday, following his impressive twin centuries in the series opener against England in Leeds.

India’s newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill surged five spots to 20th overall after scoring a century in the first innings of the match, despite his team losing by five wickets after setting England a challenging target of 371.

Pant, who is now only the second wicketkeeper to score two hundreds in a single match during the first Test of this five-match series, moved up one position in the rankings.
Prior to Pant’s feat, Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower was the only wicketkeeper to achieve two centuries in the same Test match.

Pant scored 134 and 118 in the exciting Leeds Test that was ultimately won by England by five wickets.

The rankings for Test bowlers saw minimal changes, with India’s leading pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah holding firm at the top following yet another five-wicket haul in the Headingley Test.

Meanwhile, Ben Duckett, who was named Player of the Match for his scores of 62 and 149 in England’s triumph, climbed five places to eighth in the rankings.

Duckett’s teammates, Ollie Pope (up three positions to 19th) and Jamie Smith (up eight spots to 27th), also made notable advancements.

Veteran England batter Joe Root maintained his status as the No 1 ranked Test batter, with teammate Harry Brook as his closest competitor.

England captain Ben Stokes moved up three places to fifth in the Test all-rounders list due to strong performances with both bat and ball during the same match.

The drawn first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh saw several players from both teams make strides in the latest batters’ rankings. Mushfiqur Rahim topped the list after his innings of 163 in Galle.

Rahim advanced 11 spots to claim 28th place among Test batters, while his teammate Najmul Hossain Shanto made a significant leap of 21 positions to 29th after scoring a pair of centuries in the same match.
