Game of the Day
The La Salle softball team celebrated Senior Night on Thursday – and then celebrated its most dramatic win of the season.
The Rams hadn’t been challenged by an RIIL team since opening day, but Pilgrim arrived in Providence ready to change that. Trailing in the bottom of the sixth, the Rams went ahead on two wild pitches before Diana Hall’s home run added some very necessary insurance in a 7-6 win over the Patriots.
La Salle struck first thanks to a solo home run by Phoenyx Silva in the first inning, but Pilgrim took the lead in the third after an RBI double by Maddie Tuirok, an RBI single by Genna D’Amato and an RBI single by Skylar Hawes.
The Rams added a run in the bottom of fifth and entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-2. A one-out double by Kayleigh Ventura and a single by Hailey Vigneau brought Silva to the plate with a chance to tie the game.
Silva didn’t need to swing her bat to do so. Wild pitches brought home two runs and after Silva was intentionally walked, Hall hit a two-run homer for a 6-3 lead. La Salle added another run before the inning ended on an RBI single by Nikka Pallotta.
The added runs proved necessary. Pilgrim fought back in the seventh, getting a run on an error and two more on a home run by D’Amato. Hawes kept things going with a one-out single, but ended up stranded there after Vigneau retired the final two batters on ground outs.
Silva scored three runs in the game. Alivia Ring went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run and Pallotta was 3-for-4 with one RBI for La Salle.
D’Amato led Pilgrim’s offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Tuirok and Natalie Fratus both scored twice in the loss.
⚾BASEBALL- Division I
La Salle 4, Lincoln 3
Tied in the bottom of the seventh, Angelo Fuscellaro sent Ram fans home happy with a single that scored Josh Santana for the 4-3 walk-off win over the Lions.
Playoffs won’t start for two weeks but the matchup certainly felt like one. Lincoln scored first and led 2-0 in the second before La Salle tied the game in the bottom of the third. The teams traded runs in the fifth, setting the stage for the seventh-inning heroics.
Tony Natale opened the bottom of the seventh with a walk and Santana came in to run. He took second on a passed ball and after Jayce Bessette was hit by a pitch, Fuscellaro came up ready to do damage. After taking a ball, he hit a ball toward first the Lions couldn’t come up with, allowing the speedy Santana to come home with the winning run.
Tommy Malloy led the La Salle offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Jairo Martinez was solid on the mound, throwing five innings while allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out seven. Domenic McNeil pitched the final two innings and earned the win.
Caden Oldham led Lincoln at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. Freshman Logan Xiarhos threw a great game, going six innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts.
Mt. Hope 5, Portsmouth 4
The Huskies rallied for three runs in the final two innings with Trace Dubois’s providing the game-wining hit in a 5-4 comeback win over the Patriots.
Mt. Hope trailed 4-2 after the fifth inning, but cut the deficit in half after a sacrifice fly by Braylon DaCosta. The seventh inning got off to a rough start when the tying run was gunned out at the plate for the first out, but a walk to Brian Abbruzzi gave the Huskies two runners on as Dubois stepped to the plate.
He watched two pitches go by and on the 1-1 count, swung at the third, pounding the ball to left field to bring both runners in for the 5-4 lead.
Portsmouth made things very interesting in the seventh, loading the bases with one out. Abbruzzi got the second out on a line drive to left field, then secured the win on a foul pop.
Abbruzzi was terrific in relief, throwing four innings and giving up two hits and one run while striking out four to earn the win. Dubois was the offensive star, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs.
Portsmouth’s four hits were recorded by four different runs and Emmett Greenwood scored a pair of runs in the loss.

Tiverton scored one run in each of the first three innings before getting two in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Nathan Tavares and an RBI groundout by Kamdyn Rego. Tavares got the scoring started in the sixth with an RBI single and the hits kept coming, finally ending with an RBI double by Tyler Garside that brought the 10-run rule into effect.
Kyle Rogers paced the Tiverton offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Tavares and Noah Mercer both drove in two and scored twice. The Tigers’ trio of Alex Monkevicz, Aiden Silvia and Rich Helger combined for the four-hit shutout.

In the first inning Ferreira doubled and scored on an RBI double by Adrian Fernandez Jiminez and soon after, Quinones hit an RBI triple that made it 2-0. Quinones added a second RBI triple in the fourth inning to put BVPCF ahead 9-0, scoring on a passed ball to hit the 10-run, mercy-rule threshold.
Quinones finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs. Fernadez-Jiminez had two hits and scored three runs and Ferreira scored two runs and hit a triple to go along with his first-inning double.

🥎SOFTBALL – Division III
Rogers 2, Tiverton 1
After giving up the lead in the top of the seventh, the Vikings rallied and Jazelle Ramos played the roll of hero with an infield single that brought home the winning run for a 2-1 walk-off win against the Tigers.
The game was all about the pitchers for six innings, as Rogers’ Lila Leys and Tiverton’s Lia Doster traded zeroes before some Tiger miscues gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
Tiverton’s seventh inning rally looked dead in the water, but Carlie Martin’s two-out double scored Jersey-Ann Hastie from first to tie the game. Martin was thrown out at third on the play, sending the game to the bottom half of the inning.
Rogers freshman Nora Gardullo walked to open things up, moved to third on two wild pitches, but looked like she was going to be stranded after a strikeout and lineout.
Up stepped Ramos, who battled to a 2-2 count, fought off a pitch, then hit an infield single to bring home Gardullo for the Vikings’ biggest win of the season.
Leys spread eight hits and two runs over her seven innings of work, striking out seven. Doster threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Davies 16, Classical 4
Madison Blanchette set the tone with a first-inning home run as the Patriots put up crooked numbers in the first three innings before walking off with a 16-4 win over the Purple.
Davies led 1-0 after an RBI groundout by Jaslene Rodriguez and after an error put Gabriella Fisher on base, Blanchette hit a nuke to center to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead. Davies scored five before the inning was over, then put up six in the second and four in the third. Fisher ended the game with a sacrifice fly that scoed Kylie Robert, bringing the 12-run rule into play.
Blanchette finished her afternoon 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Darelyn Maldonado went 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs and Gisele Roy also drove home two while scoring three times. Robert had two hits and scored twice and Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI.
