RCB Official Detained at Bengaluru Airport as Police Launches Sweep After Stampede Event

The Bengaluru police apprehended Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at Kempegowda International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Mumbai on Friday.

Authorities have also detained DNA entertainment officials Kiran Kumar and Sunil Matthew in connection with the stampede that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier this week.

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary Shankar and Treasurer Jayaram are currently at large, according to reports by Moneycontrol

FIRs were filed following a complaint by a police inspector at the Cubbon Park station, as stated by the police.

The charges in the FIR include voluntarily causing hurt (section 115), causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means (section 118), causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from performing their duty (section 121), and unlawful assembly (section 190) as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

On Thursday, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha, leading the magisterial probe into the stampede, announced that notices would be served to KSCA, RCB, and others to participate in the inquiry. Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court, which took up the case suo moto, instructed the state government to submit a status report regarding the tragic incident by June 10.

Earlier that day, Karnataka home minister Parameshwara declared that the government would develop a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for large events, meetings, and celebrations to avert any future incidents.
