The altercation took place in the 19th over when the umpire rejected Tristan Stubbs’ request to change his wet gloves, sparking a fierce dispute. Stubbs sought to switch his gloves due to excessive sweat in Chennai’s humid conditions on Saturday.
After being dismissed, a frustrated Rana approached the fourth umpire, resulting in him receiving a demerit point.
“Nitish Rana, batter for Delhi Capitals, has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also accumulated 1 demerit point for violating Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players,” stated the IPL.
“Rana was found to have violated article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to ‘use of an audible obscenity during a match’,” the statement continued. Rana acknowledged the infraction and accepted the Match Referee’s penalty.
Gaikwad fined ₹12 lakh for slow over-rate
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad received a fine of ₹12 lakh due to his team maintaining a slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals. CSK secured their first win in this IPL with a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
“Since this was the first offence of the season for his team under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, regarding minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined ₹12 lakhs,” the IPL media advisory indicated. CSK will face Kolkata Knight Riders next on Tuesday.
