Shaw was previously sidelined from red-ball cricket by Mumbai and also fell out of selection for limited overs matches last season. The MCA confirmed that they have accepted Shaw’s request to change teams and have approved the transfer.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) wishes to announce that cricketer Prithvi Shaw has submitted a formal request for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for another state as a professional in the upcoming domestic season. After careful consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC,” stated the board.
MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap expressed respect for Shaw’s contributions over the years.
“Prithvi Shaw has shown tremendous talent and has made significant impacts in Mumbai cricket. We honor his decision and wish him all the best in his future pursuits,” he remarked.
Shaw expressed gratitude for his time with the Mumbai team since his debut in 2017, but explained his desire to move on.
“I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the invaluable opportunities and steadfast support I received while representing the association.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am profoundly thankful for the exposure and experience I’ve gained here,” he mentioned in his letter.
He further detailed his reasons for this change, indicating that he felt his growth was stunted in Mumbai.
“At this point in my career, I have been offered an exciting opportunity to play professional cricket with a different State Association, which I believe will enhance my growth and development as a cricketer.
“In light of this, I kindly request the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to officially join the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season,” he stated.
Shaw clarified that this decision was made after much deliberation and with great respect for the MCA, though he hasn’t disclosed the name of the team he is joining next.
“I remain deeply appreciative of the association for the guidance and platform they have offered over the years.”
Shaw had a brief career with the Indian national team, featuring in five Tests and six ODIs, but has recently been in the spotlight for issues regarding fitness and off-field discipline.
