PM Modi expresses worries over reported attack on Vladimir Putin's residence, despite Ukraine's denial.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to voice significant concerns regarding an alleged attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in northern Russia, despite Ukraine’s firm denial.

He called on “all concerned” parties to pursue a diplomatic resolution.

“Deeply concerned by reports of the targeting of the residence of the President of the Russian Federation,” PM Modi posted on X in both English and Russian.

“Continued diplomatic efforts present the most viable avenue to end hostilities and achieve peace. We urge all parties to maintain their focus on these endeavors and to refrain from any actions that could jeopardize them,” he added.

This has elicited a few sarcastic remarks from netizens criticizing the Prime Minister for supporting Putin, who visited India earlier this month.

The alleged attack on Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region occurred while the US is attempting to facilitate peace talks to halt Russia’s nearly four-year-long aggression against Ukraine.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Ukraine launched the attack, employing 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the night of December 28-29.

US President Donald Trump mentioned that he was informed of the alleged incident by President Putin during a phone call, expressing his anger over the development, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s denial of the allegations.

“It’s a delicate period. This isn’t the right time. It’s one thing to be offensive, because they’re offensive. It’s another to target his house. This is not the right time to do any of that,” Trump told reporters on Monday, December 29.

Zelenskyy defended himself by stating that claims of an attack are merely a ruse to justify ongoing Russian aggression and asserted that Ukraine would never sabotage diplomatic efforts.

“This alleged ‘residence strike’ story is a complete fabrication intended to justify further attacks on Ukraine, including Kyiv, and to support Russia’s refusal to take necessary steps to end the conflict. Typical Russian propaganda. Additionally, the Russians have previously targeted Kyiv, including the Cabinet of Ministers building,” he stated on X.
