Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on Thursday for the passing of former Mizoram Governor Swaraj Kaushal, recalling his dedication to using the legal profession for the benefit of the underprivileged.

Kaushal, who was married to the late BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj, passed away at the age of 73 on Thursday.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of Shri Swaraj Kaushal Ji. He made a mark as a lawyer and was a staunch advocate for using his profession to uplift the lives of the less fortunate,” Modi wrote in a post on X.

The Prime Minister noted that Swaraj became the youngest governor of India and had a profound impact on the people of Mizoram during his term.

“His contributions as a Parliamentarian were also significant. My thoughts are with his daughter Bansuri and the entire family during this difficult time. Om Shanti,” Modi added.

Bansuri Swaraj, Kaushal’s daughter, serves as a Lok Sabha member representing New Delhi.
