NTPC Plans to Secure ₹4,000 Crore Through NCDs, Increases Capacity by 660 MW with North Karanpura Unit Completion
State-owned power leader NTPC announced on Friday its decision to raise ₹4,000 crore via the issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs). The funds will be used for capital expenditures, refinancing existing loans, and other general corporate needs, the company stated in a regulatory filing.

NTPC plans to issue unsecured non-convertible debentures worth ₹4,000 crore on June 17, 2025, through private placement, offering a coupon rate of 6.89 percent per annum for a duration of 10 years and 1 day, maturing on June 18, 2035, according to the filing.

The NCD issuance is contingent upon shareholder approval, and the debentures are slated for listing on the NSE.NTPC completes trial operations of North Karanpura unit

On Thursday, NTPC also announced the successful completion of trial operations for a third unit of 660 MW at its North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand, bringing its total installed capacity to 81,368 MW.

The 3×660 MW North Karanpura Super Thermal Power (STPP) project is a coal-based facility situated in the Chatra district of Jharkhand.

“Unit-3 of the 660 MW capacity of the project has completed trial operations and is now included in the installed capacity of NTPC Limited,” the company noted in its filing.

“As a result, NTPC’s total installed capacity has reached 60,266 MW on a standalone basis and 81,368 MW on a group basis,” it added.
