Non-stop Flight from New Delhi to Jorhat Set to Launch in Mid-September, Says Assam CM
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that low-cost airline IndiGo will start a direct, non-stop flight between New Delhi and Jorhat beginning mid-September 2025, as part of a larger initiative to enhance air connectivity throughout the state.

This announcement came after Sarma’s recent trip to the national capital, where he engaged with senior officials from IndiGo to advocate for better air access to key Assam destinations, including Silchar, Dibrugarh, and North Lakhimpur.

“New Delhi–Jorhat Direct Flight from September 2025 — I enjoyed meeting the leaders of @IndiGo6E in New Delhi to discuss their plans for expanding air connectivity in Assam,” the Chief Minister shared on the social media platform X.

“I am excited to share that @IndiGo6E will begin a non-stop flight between Delhi and Jorhat starting mid-September 2025,” he added.

The Chief Minister characterized the meeting with IndiGo’s leadership as “satisfactory,” highlighting that the airline had reacted positively and revealed future deployment plans.

Among the significant updates, the Delhi–Dibrugarh route will be adjusted to include a stop at Guwahati, which Sarma indicated would facilitate “morning connectivity between the two capitals of Assam.”

IndiGo will also revise its flight schedule to introduce a morning Guwahati–Silchar service, a long-anticipated request from travelers in the region. Additionally, a new Guwahati–Navi Mumbai route is projected to be launched in the 2025–26 winter schedule.

The Chief Minister further disclosed that IndiGo is contemplating establishing scheduled flights from Lilabari Airport in North Lakhimpur, aimed at further improving intra-state and national connectivity.

“These enhancements, along with the imminent direct flight from Delhi to Jorhat, represent a major advancement in boosting Assam’s air connectivity,” stated Sarma.

He praised IndiGo for its “prompt response” and expressed hope regarding the airline’s ongoing commitment to offer quality service to the residents of Assam.
