What is the Advance Reservation Period (ARP)?
The ARP signifies the timeframe when train tickets can be reserved in advance. Demand typically peaks on the opening day, particularly for long-distance and sought-after routes.
How does the new system function?
On the first day of ARP, only users authenticated with Aadhaar will have the capability to book general reserved tickets online via the IRCTC website or mobile application.
These users receive exclusive booking access from 8 am to midnight on that day.
Individuals without Aadhaar can still reserve tickets online from the following day, based on availability.
Does this impact Tatkal or offline bookings?
This regulation is applicable solely to online bookings for general reserved tickets on the initial day of ARP.
Bookings at PRS counters in railway stations are unaffected and can be completed with valid identification.
Tatkal bookings were previously restricted to Aadhaar-authenticated users.
Why has Railways implemented this change?
