The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh focuses on uniting society while instilling essential qualities and virtues to prevent India from falling under foreign control again, he noted, addressing a gathering of prominent individuals here.
“We don a uniform, participate in marches, and perform stick exercises. (However) anyone who perceives it as a paramilitary group is mistaken,” he remarked, adding that the Sangh is a unique organization that is often misunderstood.

“A false narrative is being constructed around the Sangh. Nowadays, people tend not to delve deeply for accurate information. They bypass the roots and rely on Wikipedia. Not everything there is factual. Those who consult reliable sources will understand the Sangh better,” he explained.
Due to these misunderstandings, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of clarifying the RSS’s role and mission, especially during the Sangh’s centenary year when he toured the nation.
“There is a widespread belief that the Sangh arose in reaction to certain prevailing forces. This is untrue. The Sangh is not a response or opposition to anything. It is not in competition with anyone,” he stated.
Bhagwat remarked that the British were not the first to invade the nation, noting that throughout history, a small number of outsiders who were inferior to Indians had repeatedly overcome us.

“(They were) not as wealthy as us, not as virtuous… Coming from distant lands without knowledge of our country’s intricacies, they succeeded in defeating us. This has occurred seven times, with the English being the eighth invaders… So, what guarantees our Independence? We must reflect on the reasons for these recurring events,” he continued.
“We need to understand ourselves and rise above selfish interests. If society unites with virtues and qualities, the fate of this country will undoubtedly change for the better,” Bhagwat further stated.
