Mohammed Siraj appointed captain of Hyderabad for the rest of the Ranji Trophy season.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been named captain of the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy team for the remainder of the current season, with top-order batsman G Rahul Singh appointed as his deputy. Hyderabad will host their final two Group D matches, facing Mumbai on January 22 and Chhattisgarh on January 29.
Siraj steps into the leadership position after Tilak Varma was ruled out due to an abdominal injury. Tilak was initially set to lead the team but is now recovering and was also part of India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand prior to his injury.
The 30-year-old Siraj participated in the first two ODIs of the New Zealand series, taking two wickets in the opener at Vadodara, but went wicketless in the second match at Rajkot.
Currently, Hyderabad sits fourth in the Ranji Trophy Group D standings with 13 points and faces a challenging road to stay in contention for the quarter-finals. With two difficult home games left, Siraj’s leadership and experience at the highest level will be vital as Hyderabad aims to conclude the season on a strong note.
