While addressing a gathering of general secretaries and in-charges in New Delhi, Kharge remarked that former party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were referenced in the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet, alleging that National Herald properties in Delhi, Lucknow, and Mumbai were subjected to “vendetta” actions.
Kharge expressed, “I am pleased that the Supreme Court has recognized the points put forth by the Congress and other opposition parties” while discussing the Waqf (Amendment) Act currently under review. He accused the BJP and the central government of deceiving the public regarding Waqf, claiming, “The issue of ‘Waqf by user’ has been intentionally raised by the government to dispute Waqf properties.”

He asserted that the Congress would not be intimidated by the Enforcement Directorate’s actions related to the National Herald case. “You might have noticed that as part of a larger conspiracy, the names of CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi were included in the charge sheet regarding the National Herald case. Regardless of whose name they mention, our resolve remains unshaken,” Kharge stated.
“Just two or three days prior, the properties of National Herald in Delhi, Lucknow, and Mumbai were seized. It is clear that all these actions are rooted in a spirit of vendetta,” he added.
Reaffirming that ‘Young Indian’ operates as a ‘not for profit’ entity, Kharge explained that this implies that no individual can take or transfer shares, properties, or profits related to AJL. “BJP members are misleading the public with falsehoods. We must convey the truth to the citizens,” he emphasized.

The Enforcement Directorate submitted the chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others to a special court in relation to the National Herald case, accusing them of laundering ₹988 crore.
Allegations suggest that a “criminal conspiracy” was orchestrated by Congress leaders to “usurp” properties valued at ₹2,000 crore of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), a public company, by transferring 99 percent of shares to their private enterprise named Young Indian for merely ₹50 lakh, where Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are majority stakeholders.
