Malaysia has lifted its temporary ban on Elon Musk’s Grok artificial intelligence chatbot after the company implemented safety measures designed to prevent the creation of sexualized images of individuals.
This decision follows a meeting between regulators and Musk’s tech firm, which confirmed that the necessary measures have been put in place in Grok, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on Friday. Grok will continue to be monitored by authorities, the commission noted.
Earlier this month, Malaysia blocked access to Grok, citing concerns over the misuse of the AI service to produce “obscene, sexually explicit, indecent, grossly offensive, and non-consensual manipulated images, including content involving women and minors.” Regulators worldwide have sought corrective actions from Musk.
“MCMC emphasizes that user safety is a top priority,” the regulator stated. “Any failure to comply or breaches of Malaysian laws will be addressed strictly in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.”
