Mahindra Introduces Electric Variant of Its Best-Selling SUV Following Demand from Customers for an EV
A day after launching the 7XO, Mahindra has broadened its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the XUV 3XO EV, starting at ₹13.89 lakh (ex-showroom), thereby honing its focus on urban and mass-market EV consumers. This electric compact SUV is available in two variants—AX5 and AX7L—and builds upon the success of the XUV 3XO range released in April 2024, which has achieved sales of nearly 1.8 lakh units to date.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer – Automotive Division, mentioned that customer interest prompted the addition of an electric variant. “Since our introduction in April 2024, the 3XO has emerged as our fastest-selling SUV, with close to 1.8 lakh units sold so far. Customers appreciate the features and design, but they expressed a desire for an EV option. Some buyers prefer petrol, others diesel, and many stated that the same vehicle in an electric version would suit them. The 3XO EV essentially adds a new variant—an additional powertrain choice for customers,” he explained.

Addressing the wider EV landscape, Gollagunta stated that the market remains fundamentally robust despite recent slowdowns. “We view the current EV market as a phase of category creation, where each new launch contributes to fresh volume. Any downturn is primarily linked to a slowdown in new product releases, not a lack of demand. New introductions excite consumers, and that’s what drives overall EV market growth. Our pricing strategy aligns with the value customers are willing to pay, as most EVs are already nearing parity with internal combustion engines,” he noted, adding that production can be increased as demand rises, given the shared platform with the ICE 3XO.
The XUV 3XO EV features a 39.4 kWh battery that offers a practical range of up to 285 km, delivering 110 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque. It includes advanced features like Level 2 ADAS, Adrenox connected technology, Harman Kardon audio with Dolby Atmos, and a 360-degree surround view system. Deliveries are set to commence on February 23, 2026.

Key features comprise Level 2 ADAS, Adrenox connected car technology equipped with over 80 features and built-in Alexa, 7-speaker Harman Kardon audio with Dolby Atmos, and a 360-degree surround view system.

By consecutively launching the 7XO and the XUV 3XO EV, Mahindra is signaling an assertive product strategy across both internal combustion and electric powertrains, even as competition heats up in India’s rapidly expanding EV sector.
