Speaking at an election rally in Kalyan ahead of the January 15 elections for the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Fadnavis presented a vision for the enhancement of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and mentioned that all local trains will eventually feature AC coaches with closed doors, akin to the metro services.
”MMRDA is not just a banking entity; it was established to finance and construct infrastructure throughout the metropolitan area,” the Chief Minister remarked. He highlighted that he and his deputy Eknath Shinde have launched projects worth ₹
4 lakh crore through MMRDA, concentrating on water initiatives, road improvements, and a comprehensive metro system.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a governmental body tasked with planning and overseeing infrastructure development for the MMR.
In a major update for commuters, Fadnavis assured a significant enhancement to Mumbai’s local trains. ”The local train is our lifeline, and while we have upgraded stations and escalators under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, we’re now introducing an even bigger advancement. All local trains will eventually come equipped with AC coaches and closed doors, similar to those in the metro,” he stated.
The CM guaranteed that ”the price of second-class tickets will not rise by even a single rupee,” maintaining that modern comfort will remain affordable for the general public.
Fadnavis stressed that crucial projects such as the Airoli-Katai Naka Freeway, the multi-modal corridor, and east-west connectivity tunnels are ”game changers” that will significantly shorten travel times for residents of Kalyan and Dombivli.
He revealed plans for a substantial business center, similar to BKC in Mumbai, in the Kalyan-Dombivli region, which, along with the Bullet Train project and new data centers, will create thousands of job opportunities for the future workforce.

Fadnavis appealed to the public for an ”unprecedented mandate” for the BJP-led Mahayuti on January 15, promising to elevate Kalyan-Dombivli to become the best municipal corporation in the nation over the next five years. The KDMC is among 29 municipal corporations holding elections, with results to be declared on January 16.
During a public meeting in Ulhasnagar, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of ”the rule of law,” stating that ”goonda raaj” would not be accepted. ”Ulhasnagar will be ruled by law. There can be no tolerance for lawlessness here,” he affirmed. The Chief Minister voiced concerns over the stagnated development in Ulhasnagar, noting its rich cultural diversity.
”Although Ulhasnagar is referred to as a city, many areas resemble villages in terms of conditions. When compared to other municipal corporations, Ulhasnagar has significantly fallen behind in development. Now is the time to genuinely confront this issue,” he added.
