Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (July 11), the CPI(M) leader stated that the Central government must take necessary actions to restore the confidence of the valley’s residents.
“We explored several areas in Uri yesterday, witnessing significant damage. We also met the family members of Nargis, the woman who lost her life in the shelling. We interacted with people who have experienced substantial damage to their homes.

“Affected individuals have been compensated with Rs 1.5 lakh for damages, which is utterly inadequate. We’ve estimated a minimum damage of Rs 10 lakh in each case,” Baby remarked.
He mentioned that the delegation has urged the affected individuals to provide their assessments in writing to senior CPI(M) leader in J-K, M Y Tarigami, who would convey it to the party leadership. “We will raise this issue in Parliament.” “Another pressing concern is the insufficient number of bunkers for protection. More bunkers need to be constructed…we will address this with the administration and also bring it up in the House,” Baby added.
The CPI(M) general secretary noted that there are additional political issues requiring attention.
“A joint command meeting (unified headquarters meeting of security forces) occurred, presided over by the (J&K) lieutenant governor, yet the elected chief minister was not even permitted to attend.
“Furthermore, there’s the issue of reinstating Article 370 and statehood…this is a Union territory, and even the state police falls under Delhi’s jurisdiction,” he stated.
The CPI(M) leader highlighted that in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, the people of J&K united with the people of India, conveying a powerful message to the nation.
