This groundbreaking system allows passengers to swiftly report complaints related to hygiene and service, facilitating prompt responses from the authorities.
The system requires passengers to scan a distinct QR code found at the catering stalls, which redirects them to the RailMadad portal. Here, they can log in with their mobile number and submit complaints concerning overcharging, food quality, hygiene, and various other matters.
This digital initiative enhances the feedback process for improved service and accountability in railway catering.
In a post on X, the Ministry stated, “To enhance passenger convenience, Indian Railways has launched a first-of-its-kind QR code-based grievance redressal system at catering stalls in the Chennai division, in partnership with RailMadad, enabling quick registration of complaints on hygiene and service issues.”

In another update, the Ministry of Railways has recently announced a new fare structure scheduled to become effective on December 26.
Passengers will incur an additional 1 paisa per km in Ordinary Class for journeys exceeding 215 km, and 2 paisa per km in Mail/Express Non-AC and AC classes, according to the revised ticket pricing strategy reported by The Economic Times. Ticket prices will remain unchanged for travelers covering distances shorter than 215 kilometres.
Additionally, those traveling 500 kilometres in Non-AC will face an extra ₹10 charge.
However, fares for suburban services and Monthly Season Ticket (MST) holders will not see an increase. With this adjustment, the Railway anticipates a revenue boost of ₹ 600 crore.
