How Amol Mazumdar Is Assisting Shafali Varma in Enhancing Her All-Round Skills
Indian opener Shafali Varma is honing her all-round skills under the guidance of head coach Amol Mazumdar following the Women’s ODI World Cup victory.

Shafali delivered an impressive performance, scoring 69 off 34 balls, leading the Women in Blue to a significant win in the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, thus giving the home team a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

During the post-match media conference, when the topic of bowling options arose, she remarked, “Of course, I will speak about myself. I enjoy bowling a lot, and I believe that when we feel bored in the field, we have the opportunity to bowl. This way, we contribute more to the team.”
She continued, “Amol sir always emphasizes that anyone can bowl, and everyone needs to be prepared. We all practice bowling in the nets. We are all eager to bowl. Even Smriti didi joined as well. Jemimah and I have also been bowling in the nets.

“So, I believe we all bowl. Cricket is unpredictable. You never know when the team might need you. Hence, we all have to stay ready for that.” Shafali’s unbeaten 69 is now her personal best WT20I score in India. This marks her fifth half-century in home matches and 12th overall in the format.

The Indian team has faced challenges in the field lately, with missed catches that should typically be taken. However, Shafali mentioned that the squad is diligently working to enhance this crucial aspect of their game with the World Cup approaching next summer in the UK.

“Everyone is very eager to put in the hard work. We all understand that next year is the T20 World Cup, and we are focusing on every little detail.

“As you pointed out, we dropped catches in the first game. But everyone is committed to improving their fielding. Each day, we are striving to get better.”
