According to Saxena, this initiative, spearheaded by the Delhi Development Authority, marks a crucial step towards making Delhi a lively city, with improved recreational facilities and world-class infrastructure.
The rides will be available for residents starting Saturday at Baansera, with plans to extend to include Asita, Yamuna Sports Complex, and CWG Village Sports Complex in the near future.
The hot air balloons will be tethered to ensure controlled and safe panoramic views of the riverfront and adjacent city skyline.
Each balloon ride will reportedly cost ₹ 3,000, plus taxes, per person for a 15-20-minute aerial experience. The operator will schedule two flights daily, one in the morning and another in the evening, subject to weather conditions. Each basket can accommodate around four people per trip.
The DDA has engaged a certified operator with prior experience in ballooning and aviation-related recreational services. This team will manage launch operations, pilot the balloon, and conduct safety inspections prior to each flight.
DDA officials indicated that this initiative is part of a larger plan to activate the Yamuna riverfront as a lively recreational area, promote ecotourism, and attract more visitors to its revamped riverfront parks.
The DDA has already launched cycling paths, nature trails, and boating facilities in specific sections of the floodplain, and the introduction of balloon rides is expected to add a new and attractive feature to the area.
Baansera Park, spread over 10 hectares, is a bamboo-themed space established ahead of the G-20 Summit. It showcases bamboo varieties from across India, including Assam, and is structured into two sections: the Bamboo Recreation Area and the Bamboo Plantation Area.
The hot air balloon ride experience begins on November 29 at Baansera Park, Sarai Kale Khan, providing stunning views of the Akshardham Temple, Signature Bridge, and the Yamuna riverbank. The ride operates daily from 6 am to 6 pm, weather permitting, ascending to 120 feet for a 15-20-minute experience, priced at ₹ 3,000 per person.
The launch is expected to garner significant public interest as Delhi embarks on its first-ever adventure tourism experience.
