Hitachi Energy India Receives ₹26 Crore Tax Notice for AY 2022-23, Plans to Appeal to ITAT
On January 24, Hitachi Energy India Ltd announced that it has received an order from the Income-tax Department’s Assessment Unit concerning the Assessment Year 2022-23, leading to a total tax demand of ₹26.07 crore. This includes ₹16.40 crore for income-tax and ₹9.67 crore in interest.

The company received this notification on January 23, 2026, at 3:39 pm IST. The disputed disallowances comprise interest on delayed receivables along with group management fees. Hitachi Energy India contends that, based on their evaluation of the facts and applicable laws, the tax demand and interest imposed are arbitrary, unjustified, and legally untenable.

The company indicated it will submit the required appeal to the Income-tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) within the allowed timeframe.Second Quarter Results

For the quarter ending September 30, 2025 (Q2 FY26), the company’s net profit surged more than fivefold to ₹264 crore, compared to ₹52 crore during the same period last year.

Revenue saw a year-on-year increase of 18% to ₹1,832.5 crore, while EBITDA more than doubled to ₹299.3 crore from ₹108.8 crore a year earlier. The EBITDA margin improved to 16.3%, up from 7% in the same quarter last year. The company attributed its growth to a persistent focus on operational efficiency and execution of high-margin orders.

Industries and renewables were highlighted as major contributors to the order book, with exports making up over 30% of total orders. Additionally, the company reported ongoing growth in its service sector, including orders for extensions, retrofitting, and India’s first deployment of EconiQ, a sustainable, SF6-free switchgear technology.

Shares of Hitachi Energy India Ltd closed at ₹16,504.10, down ₹357.40, or 2.12%, on the BSE.
